The Seychelles University Foundation has opened a fund into which donors can make
contributions. This fund will have two components and donors can choose to donate to
either fund.
The Capital Fund
The Capital Fund is to finance the construction of the University. This fund is held
in both the Seychelles Rupee, the US Dollar and the Euro is set at 40 million USD.
The Capital Fund will be raised through special fund raising events and also
contributions from corporate sponsors.
The Government of Seychelles will give local businesses a 100% tax reduction on all
donations to the Foundation, and for donations in terms of imported goods, 0%
trades tax and GST will apply.
The Endowment Fund
The Endowment Fund is to finance scholarship and other activities of the University once
established. This fund will also be held in Seychelles Rupee, the US Dollar and the Euro
and is set at USD 10 million as a primary target. It is expected that the fund will
continue to grow depending on donations. The fund will fund scholarships, establishments
of university chairs, specific research and other activities of the University once
established.
Various initiatives have been launched to establish the Fund.
Contribution of One-Day Salary by Government Employers:
The President, the Cabinet of Ministers and all Chief Executives have already pledged
one-day of their salary towards the endowment fund.
Members of the National Assembly have agreed to development district level initiatives
to engage the local community in contributing to the endowment fund.
